Harness the eBook revolution

Friday, February 10th, 2012

In 2007 Amazon launched the Kindle ebook reading device which allowed book lovers to buy and download content at the touch of a button.

Then 2009 saw the Apple iPad explode onto the scene, bringing with it the iBook app for ebook sales which eventually expanded onto other Apple products such as the iPhone and the iPod touch.

Last year Amazon announced that their Kindle digital download sales had eclipsed both their hardback and paperback sales combined. This is probably the defining moment of the ebook revolution.

Amazon is the ideal marketing platform to publish onto, purely based on its size and infrastructure of 275 million registered buyers. They will market your content for you, offering it to buyers with similar items and email the purchasers of your content every time you add new e-books, guides and reports.

Other ebook readers like the Barnes and Noble Nook reader opened up their marketplace and partnered with UK bookseller Waterstones, while WHSmith recently signed a deal with Canadian tech firm Kobo.

For Business owners this provides a massive opportunity to get content in front of a lot of potential prospects.

  1. You can brand yourself or your business as an expert in your field
  2. You can use your books and guides as lead generators to build your database as well as sell backend services and products.
  3. It doesn’t have to be a huge book. You can publish guides, short reports, whitepapers and even publish your blog posts as a book.
