How We Work
We're a friendly and flexible bunch and we love a challenge. We've worked on a wide variety of projects - each with their own unique challenges and requirements. We like to be flexible and nimble when approaching new projects, but there are similarities and processes that we follow to ensure that everything stays on track.
To help you understand our approach to our customers requirements, we've included some of the basic processes for our key services. If you have any questions about our services - just ask.
Web Design & Build
Our aim is to help our clients grow by improving their existing online presence or helping them create brand new ones. We believe every project needs good planning, effective design and efficient development.
So what's the first step?
The first step is getting to know you and your business. We usually like to start with a friendly informal chat, just to get a feel for what your business does and establish particular aims and objectives for the website. This meeting is all about understanding the business, its customers and its products or services, then we can work on a proposal that may contain several options and ways to proceed. We usually send out a questionnaire before the meeting, this gives you time to think about some of the points that we will be discussing in the meeting, it also helps to structure the meeting and ensure everything is covered.
What's included in your proposal and can you give me an idea about costs?
Once we've found out more about you we can then then put a plan together, depending on the conversation this may contain serval option for you to consider. The proposal will outline how we can help, what the process will be and we will give you an estimated cost for the project.
Ok we like your proposal, so what happens next?
Great! Now it's time for us to start planning your site, we will create a sitemap which is a visual diagram of every page on your website. The sitemap is also a great way to visually understand the structure of the pages and how the navigation system works. Depending on the size and complexity of your site we might choose to produce a wireframe of the key pages of the site. A wireframe is a blueprint of your site, showing the key elements on the page without any distracting design.
We will also produce a design brief so that when we come to designing the site, we are both clear on what we want to achieve. Once the plans have been signed off we can start designing.
So we're happy with the design, what's next?
The next stage would be building and coding the website so it works on the web and host it on our development servers, so you can check the website as it is developed.
Which browsers do you support?
We support web standards and our sites will work on all modern browsers that are standards compliant. These include well known browsers like Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple's Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer*.
We also guarantee full support for the current and penultimate version of the browsers above, this means that anyone on the most recent 2 versions will get the best viewing experience. Again we believe in web standards so older browsers that follow these standards will be supported. Of course the web is constantly evolving and newer technologies will not work on older browsers, we use new technologies based on standards, so if they are not supported they just disappear leaving the basic content intact.
*The exception to this rule is Microsoft's Internet Explorer which has not followed web standards in the past, and Microsoft has also been slow at getting its users to update. We currently support Internet Explorer versions 7 to 9, which is the majority of users.
What about Internet Explorer 6 (IE6)?
We don't support IE6 by default because of it's age, low market share and it's complete lack of web standards. Supporting IE6 is actually very expensive and time consuming, but we can support this version if required. If you require IE6 support we will give you a separate cost for the extra development time.
Do I need IE6 support?
IE6 user base is falling dramatically and currently accounts for just 2.6% (July 2011) of internet users in the UK. Visit Microsoft's own Internet Explorer 6 Countdown website for the latest statistics. If you work with some government agencies or you have specific customers in India and China then you might still require support for this version, but we recommend checking first as it could be an unnecessary cost.
Branding
We'd like to commission Code 9 to work with us on some effective graphic design, what happens next?
Firstly the key to producing an accurate and spot on brief is consultation at an early stage. We'll go through with you exactly what you want to achieve, who your target market is as well as your ideas, whether it is graphic design, web, marketing or branding.
Secondly we would then make some recommendations as to the channel (email, web, brochures, advertising etc) your marketing should target. We would agree with you key dates, stages and produce initial designs as a first stage in the process.
We'd like a complete Corporate Identity for our business to work across all mediums, how will this work?
Designing a logo takes a fair amount of work in terms of achieving and representing your business in one logo. We would need to make sure your logo works at different sizes and can be reproduced for print and web. If you are a larger company you'll want to have a style guide to ensure your logo and colours are consistent across the organisation.
Your companies identity is your most important visual asset, so it's important that time is spent getting it right.
Will you produce different versions of our Corporate ID?
We would create at least two to three solutions, depending on the medium so that you get a fair overview of the options.
What is the cost likely to be?
We will be able to give you a fixed cost after our initial consultation, allowing you to stick to a budget.
Can you get it printed for us, or should we find our own printer?
We have a number of printers we deal with and can oversee this part of the project for you. Or, if you prefer you can use your own printer and we will give you a disc with print ready artwork on.
Do you offer other services related such as copywriting, photography and PR for example?
Yes we can supply and source any of these services.
Do you charge a fee for handing over artwork for our own use, once its been completed?
No, we will archive your work and give you it on disc whenever you need it.
Internet Marketing & Web Promotion
We want to make sure our website gets visitors and shows up in the search engines, what's the first step?
We would initially talk with you about your expected results, check your current website for any improvements that can be made and come up with an action plan.
This may include one or all of the following: Keyword research, search engine marketing (SEM), social media marketing (SMM), pay-per-click advertising (PPC), email marketing and other forms of online advertising.
If we have produced your website, it will already be fully optimised for the search engines. The next stage would be to look at search engine marketing such as pay per click campaigns for instant traffic along with a longer term organic search engine strategy. This would include creating and publishing remote content such as articles, blog posts, press releases, videos and back links all linking to your website to help enhance and widen your web presence.
Will I have to produce all this content?
If you want to produce and source your own content, no problem. We can produce the content for you from specialist and experienced writers, which you can approve before release. We can also create video and other new media for syndication.
How much will all this cost?
We offer a combination of Internet marketing packages to suit all budgets.
For more competitive markets it takes more work to rank in the search engines because there it is so competitive, so a monthly package would be preferable. If, on the other hand, we can see via our research that your website looks like it could rank easier, you may just need a small one off campaign.
How will I see results?
We want to be very transparent with the results we achieve. Your website will be set up with Google Analytics so you can see your visitor numbers and where they are coming from. We will also give you a report outlining the work we've done.
We want offline marketing such as leaflets, adverts and brochures, how does this relate to that?

Our client testimonials
"I just wanted to thank you for all your work on the website. We are very pleased with the end result. I have been impressed by the service we
have received. Throughout the whole process you have dealt with my queries and feedback really promptly and as if nothing is too much trouble. You have also
been very patient when we have been slow in responding to you. Please pass on my thanks to everyone who was involved."
